How Foreign Tourists Are Promoting Morocco as a Travel Destination
Foreign tourists are increasingly promoting Morocco as a top travel destination on social media. Through videos and posts, they highlight Morocco’s vibrant cities, rich culture, and unique experiences, contributing to its global tourism appeal.
This surge in online promotion aligns with Morocco’s ongoing efforts to achieve its tourism goals, as outlined in the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap and the broader plan to attract 26 million tourists by 2030.
Data suggests that Morocco has become one of the most discussed travel destinations on social media, both globally and regionally. Foreign tourists, especially on platforms like YouTube, highlight not just a single city but multiple destinations across the country, showcasing Morocco’s year-round appeal.
Tourists Share Their Experiences in Morocco
Recently, Christina and her husband arrived in Casablanca for a special vacation. She expressed her fascination with Morocco’s economic capital, particularly praising its accommodations and cuisine. One of her biggest surprises was learning that foreign tourists are not required to provide marriage documentation when booking accommodations, unlike Moroccan nationals.
The couple, who regularly document their travels on social media, also noted Morocco’s linguistic diversity. They observed that French is widely spoken in daily conversations alongside Moroccan Arabic (Darija) and Amazigh. Their journey extended beyond Casablanca to Marrakesh and southeastern Morocco, following their recent trip to Dubai.
Frederik Kornelos, a Danish tourist and musician, also visited Morocco, making Marrakesh his first stop. He was particularly captivated by the cultural diversity within the old medina (historic city center).
Frederik was especially impressed by Morocco’s traditional handicrafts, which he believes set the country apart from other global destinations. “This is my first time in Morocco, traveling alone without a guide,” he shared, as he engaged in conversations with locals about Moroccan lifestyle and hospitality.
His documentation of Morocco extended beyond Marrakesh to its surrounding areas and various scenic locations in the Marrakesh-Safi region, which consistently attracts a high number of both domestic and international tourists.
Security and Infrastructure Appreciated by Tourists
One aspect Frederik praised was the security in tourist areas, particularly in mountain destinations like Setti Fatma. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong security measures to ensure tourist safety, aligning with the opinions of other foreign travelers who have previously promoted Morocco through digital platforms.
In a related context, the coastal city of Essaouira captured the interest of French tourists Audrey and Bastian, who documented their visit. They were amazed by the number of European travelers drawn to the City of Wind to enjoy the Atlantic Ocean and surfing. However, they regretted not having more time to explore the city, saying, Unfortunately, we don’t have enough time to see more of Essaouira.
The couple also pointed out that communication in Essaouira is easy, as many locals working in the tourism sector speak French. They particularly appreciated the city’s excellent restaurants, initially planning to stay just one night but extending their visit to three nights due to the outstanding hospitality.
Their Moroccan journey did not stop in Essaouira. Video footage they shared shows their travels to Marrakesh, Oualidia, M’diq, Ifrane, Fez, Al Hoceima, and Tetouan, covering these destinations in about 60 days. Their travel content now joins a growing digital collection of videos showcasing Morocco as a top global tourist destination.
