DAY : Marrakech – High Atlas – Ouarzazate – Agdz
We start our journey from your Riad in Marrakech. Then we head to the Southeastern part of Morocco by crossing the chain of Mountains called the High Atlas. It is necessary to take the famous Tizi N’tichka pass to reach the other side of the Mountains. The road offers nice views of landscapes and is worth some great panoramic pictures. Ait Ben Haddou village is located near the Oued Elmalh River. The historical Kasbah consists of a tall habitat of adobe, and the site is taken as a movie set for Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, the Game of Thrones… etc, Then we take a guided visit to the Atlas Movies studio. And we take time for lunch. in the afternoon we are going to our accommodation in Agdz, for Dinner, and overnight in Kasbah Tamnougalte.
Day 2: Agdez – Zagora -Tamegroute – Mhamid – Chigaga Dunes
After breakfast, we visit Kasbah Tamnougalte, It’s the same Kasbah we spent the night in, the oldest Kasbah in the Draa Valley, before taking the ancient caravan road between the river and the mountains for a short while. On the way, we pass many villages and gardens where you can gain a better idea of the way of life in the life-giving oases. Zagora is the largest town in the whole area and where we shall stop for lunch. Later we pass through Tamgroute with a stop for the potteries, famous for their green glaze, which you may have already seen in Marrakech. The ancient Quranic library with exquisite hand-written Arabic texts is well worth visiting. In the afternoon, we drive further south still to M’hamid, the very gate to the desert, and the end of the paved road. You leave the asphalted road behind to drive about 60 km across the desert. The dunes in Erg Chegaga are far away from civilization, in the desert proper, where nomadic life is hard, subject to the vagaries of the wind, sandstorms, and sparse rainfall. But the silence and the expanse of the sand are overwhelming, Here you have a camel ride with a guide to the top of the dunes to watch the spectacular desert sunset. You have dinner and spend the night at a luxury camp with a private bathroom, king-sized beds, beautiful Moroccan furnishings, and lamps tastefully arranged to enhance your enjoyment of the silence and beauty of the dunes.
Day 3: Chigaga Dunes – Iriki Lake – Foumzguid – Tazenakht – Ait Benhaddou
After breakfast, the road takes us through another 90km of the desert with varying scenery: we first cross the flat dried salt lake of Iriqui and the Anti Atlas mountains, following the old track of ” Rally Paris Dakar. ” Then to Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert, where the paved road begins. After lunch, continue to the Berber village of Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets and rugs. We arrive at Ouarzazate late in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Ouarzazate.
Day. 4. Ait Benhaddou – Telouet- Tichka Pass – Marrakech
After breakfast, coffee, tea, and relaxation we will continue our trip to The Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, which is the most famous in the valley of Ounila. It is recognized by UNESCO World Heritage and has been used especially for the shooting of several famous films like Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, Lawrence of Arabia, and Gladiator. we will stop for a visit and have lunch in the restaurant. Travel the old caravan route through the High Atlas Mountains, soaking in the historical and natural grandeur of the great Moroccan south.
