DAY 1: MARRAKECH – IMLIL 1700M – TOUBKAL REFUGE 3207M

After breakfast, we have a 1h 30 drive to Imlil village, and we will begin the trek. Heading along the Ait Mizane Valley, we first pass Aremd village and then onto the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. We then continue east and by crossing the flood plains our route takes us along mule tracks and up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley crossing the river we eventually come to the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims. From here the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the snowline ( in winter ) and the Toukbal Refuge (3207m), our stop for the night, Approx 4 to 5hrs walking. The height difference of 1507m between the Imlil and Toubkal huts.

DAY 2: TOUBKAL REFUGE 3207M – MOUNT TOUBKAL PEAK 4167M – REFUGE – IMLIL

Early in the morning, we make our attempt at the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the screen and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile. When you reach the summit you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking. From here there are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. We will retrace our steps when we return down to the refuge have lunch and then head back towards Imlil. 9 to 10 hours walk. The height difference is 960m between the refuge and the Toubkal peak.

Amazing experience with this tour agency everything was good from the day to the beautiful places we have visited. Thanks for everything!!! We recommend it 100%

  2. Leola

Everything about our experience was outstanding, from the kindness of the Berber people we met along the way, to the hospitality of the refuge staff. But above all else, Said was an incredible guide. His expertise on the mountain and on the trails leading through the foothills was exceptional. He kept us moving at a rigorous pace but never hesitated to let us rest if we needed it. If you are looking for a breathtaking mountain climbing experience, do Jebel Toubkal, and do it with Go MarrakechDesert Trips.
One important note: Most web sources rank Toubkal as “easy.” And while this is certainly true from a technical standpoint, the level of fitness required for a two-day expedition should not be taken lightly. You will hike continuously uphill, in the sun, for almost six miles the first day, and then nearly three to the summit the next morning (4:00 a.m. start). Then, you will have to immediately turn around and do those exact nine total miles back in the afternoon, to return to Imlil for your transportation to Marrakech. Do NOT underestimate how demanding this climb will be. But if you are fit and invigorated by the prospect of bagging the tallest peak in Morocco, then book this tour ASAP!

contacted several companies offering this tour – few of them didn’t answer, Some did but the communication with them was painful. This company – Toubkal Trekking – answered fast, Mustapha gave me the information that I asked for and everything was organized precisely.
The trip to the top and down was very nice. It’s not very hard in terms of climbing skills, but you need to be ready for a long walk. The way from the base camp to the top is a little bit harder, especially because of the slippery stones.
We’ve been in a group of 10 people and we had 2 great guides. The price is included two tasty lunches, one dinner, and one small breakfast.
The only drawback of this tour was that one girl from the group overestimated her condition and she was constantly slowing the group. She didn’t even bring or rent them before the tour the proper equipment (f.e. nordic sticks and the guide had to give her his own). I have to mention that I understand that not everybody in the group has the same skills and speed, so the group has to respect the tempo of the slowest, however, there are more things:
On the second day to the top, we woke up at 4 am, ate breakfast and we should start to climb to 4:30 am. This girl was 25 minutes late so, we were delayed because of her since the beginning. During the climb to the top, she stopped many times and gave up. The guides pushed her up physically. It was nice that they tried to help but on the other side this attitude ruined this part of the tour for the rest of the group and because of her we missed the sunrise by 90 minutes – so we woke up at 4 in vain.
The company also offers a three-day tour to the top, which is ideal for people with no condition like this girl. Guides/companies should demand clients to be on time and split the group or move the client from two days trip to three days if they realize, that there is this kind of issue. Also, the Nordic sticks should be obligatory.
