Day 1: MARRAKECH – KASBAH AIT BEN HADOU – ZAGORA (8 HOURS DRIVE)

You will be picked up from your hotel in Marrakech around 07h30 AM for your shared 2-day desert tour to Zagora. Sit back and enjoy the ride as you pass through the Tizi Ntichka pass (2260 m. alt) and different adobe Berber villages. You may even see locals herding their goats! There will be a stop in the middle of the High Atlas Mountains so you can take some pictures, stretch your legs or have a cup of coffee. Upon arrival at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, you will have some free time to explore this UNESCO world heritage site and its famous fortified village. This village was used as a set for various Biblical epics and a backdrop for commercial and modeling photoshoots. If you wish to join the group on a guided tour, there is an extra fee of €3.00 per person. After the visit to the Kasbah, you will have an hour’s lunch break at leisure. From here, we will
continue driving past Ouarzazate and cross the Northeastern parts of the Anti-Atlas Mountains to the oasis of Agdz. After a quick stop in the village center, you’ll be ready to admire one amazing scenery after another. Drive along Draa Valley, where you’ll see fortified Kasbahs and oases dotted with hundreds of thousands of date palm trees. Draa Valley is home to the largest palm tree plantation in Morocco. You’ll arrive at the Zagora desert late in the afternoon, where you’ll meet your camel caravan. Your camel trekking adventure will begin through the Zagora desert, and you’ll get to experience an amazing sunset camel ride for about an hour. Please note that there are barely any sand dunes in Zagora. Just before it gets dark, you’ll drive your camels to our Berber desert camp nestled in the middle of nowhere. You’re in for a treat tonight! A delicious Moroccan dinner will be served at your Bedouin camp, followed by an incredible drums performance next to the campfire.
Your local desert nomad hosts will play and sing traditional folklore music until around midnight. Feel free to learn about the stars and constellations or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the desert under the crystal-clear night sky.

Day 2: ZAGORA- OUARZAZATE- MARRAKECH (7 HOURS DRIVE)

Your camp hosts will wake you up early in the morning to watch the sunrise. After breakfast, you’ll ride your camels again to meet your vehicle and driver on the main road. From there, you will depart for Ouarzazate, where we’ll stop for lunch at a local café and visit Taourirt Kasbah (optional – depending on timing, entrance fees apply).
Early in the afternoon, you’ll drive back to Marrakech crossing the High Atlas Mountains. Your overnight desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora will end around 19h00 in the summer and 20h00 in the winter.

  2. Anca Sarbu

The experience was excellent. The driver, Azdin, was an amazing buddy adventure, and also the guides shared the experience with us.

  3. Alexandre Pecqueur

This tour was amazing. We did not have the chance to watch the sunset due to weather conditions but we saw the sunrise. It was unbelievable!!! Thanks so much to Ebrahim, he was our driver from Marrakech to Zagora, super nice, helpful, and funny. The camel part was a bit hard but worth it. Hope they can give better instructions tho, though sometimes we felt a bit lost about what we have to do next.

  4. Rosalina

I went on a family trip to Morroco with my cousin we decided to add a desert part to our trip and didn’t regret any second!!! Our Driver Abdou was super lovely and knowledgeable!!! The views were breathtaking!!! The whole experience is just out of this world !!! Thank you Desert Family !!!

  5. Mike Stanley

It was an unforgettable experience with an extremely nice driver. A special thank you to Abderrahim! Great camel ride with, wonderful sunset, and sunrise. The Saharan dunes are the best moments of the trip but the time before in High Atlas was great too

  6. Deidre Fraser

The tour has pleasantly surprised us and if we return to Morocco we will surely repeat.
Our guide Abdou very friendly, the places incredible and the travel companions unbeatable. This tour is the best way to get to know Morocco in a super enriching multicultural environment. By the way! Thank you for the music in the car, it has greatly enlivened our trip!

  7. Mike Finch

The driver was extremely kind! Very helpful and accommodating.
Thanks to him, the road was not long!
You can’t go to Marrakech without doing this excursion! It is very enriching. We see many different landscapes, places, lifestyles and lifestyles. I still can’t believe the authenticity of each place!
Thanks to visits to the Berber valley and the town of Ouarzazate as well as regular stops along the way, we discovered wonderful places and the stories that cling to them.
The desert is magical! What we see comes straight out of a postcard. It’s even better !
We were treated to a wonderful evening meal accompanied by tea with Zaid, the gentleman who kindly accompanied us into the desert.
There is also a typical breakfast. Only the two lunchtime meals have to be paid extra but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality.
You can bring something to shower because the toilets are very clean. We slept under the stars but there were also aunts with comfortable beds.

  8. Lefanu francesco

A big thank you to Abdou who accompanied us during these two days 🙏 A lot of driving but it was worth it!

  9. Amy Zahirski

But what a magical place! The excursion was just wonderful, all the staff were excellent, cleanliness wise I give it 10/10, the driver Mourad was exceptional, a very good person, always in a good mood, welcoming, and attentive. I recommend you !!

  10. Michael Sinclair

Our excursion to the Zagora desert was wonderful! The setting, the people, the activities, everything was perfect!
We would particularly like to thank our driver Mohamed from Agadir for helping us for many hours to find a taxi on our return to Marrakech because we had missed our bus to Essaouira!
    Thanks again Abdou!!

  11. Susan Karsh

Very good experience to have. The road is long, of course, but the reward is worth the detour. The desert, the sunset and sunrise, the musical evening and the starry night are all simply magnificent. The only downside is the imposition of restaurants at lunchtime which are really not extraordinary for prices equivalent to the medina. We were with Abdou who was a very good driver and guide during this excursion, 1000 thanks to him for his good humor.

  12. Walls Saundra

Superb excursion!! Don’t expect to find yourself in the middle of endless dunes, but the detour is worth it because the landscapes are breathtaking throughout the journey. Abdou was cool, attentive and super friendly. Always smiling and professional! Excellent driver 😉 on the other hand, during the first stop for the lunch break, avoid the village tour scams. Take your own tour which will be just as beautiful without being in a herd and free. Also try not to let yourself be fooled at lunch time when they take you to a very expensive and not very tasty restaurant! Enjoy sleeping under the stars in the magnificent camp well prepared for you!

  13. Zenaida Schreiber

Schedules respected, promises kept, kindness and goodwill throughout the stay from Abdou the driver, even if the road is long and bumpy (works).
the camel ride at sunset, the welcome of the Berbers around tea, the meal, the songs and music around the fire, the sunrise in the dunes, etc… everything was magical and magnificent! A real parenthesis! What happiness! And great meetings… Thank you all for the organization.

  14. Colin Kula

Very well organized and pleasant. We were only 6 tourists with a driver, which made it friendly and more personalized than large group tours. The camp was extraordinary and the Berber welcome was very warm. On the other hand, the dinners on the road were very ordinary, even bad, and quite expensive. You should also know that the journey is long, but the view is magnificent all along.
Our driver, Abdou, was very friendly and a very good driver on this steep road. Notice to monolingual French speakers: he only spoke English, Spanish and Arabic, it would be better to specify your language to the agency before the tour.
