Chefchaoune the Blue Pearl of Morocco
Also, know as Chaouen, was founded in 1471, by Moulay Ali ibn Rashid al- Alami is known for
the streets and building painted in all nuances of blue, to the joy of the photographers. The
enchanting city is at the foot of the Riff mountains, and the fresh mountain air is felt throughout
the medina. Circulate several legends about the blue color, some say it is the color of the sky
and so it keeps the people of this place connected with God, others say that blue would keep
mosquitoes away. Or maybe is the color of water, or this color brings calm or really is cool and
attractive! With a history of Spanish occupation, the city retains the Spanish and Andalusian
influence in the architecture. You will be delighted by this picturesque and photogenic city!

Panoramic view of Chefchaoune
The Spanish Mosque was built in the 1920’s and sits on a hill that perfectly overlooks
Chfchaouen’s medina, Was built during the Rif War which was fought between the Spanish, who
was colonizing the region, and the Berber tribes of the Rif Mountains. Chefchaouen’s Spanish
Mosque is probably the best place to catch a sunset in Chefchaouen.
Is the museum located in Kasbah (the main fortified building in the town) and it is located in
Place Outa el Hamam. A heritage museum was built on a hill in 1737-1738.
Place Outa el Hammam & Kasbah
Place Outa el Hammam & Kasbah stands as the main square of the old city with an impressive
museum that has panoramic views from the tower and the town’s mosque.
It is located at the central Place Outa Hammam, near the city’s historic Kasbah, dates from the
earliest period of the city after its foundation by Moulay ‘Ali ibn Rashid al-Alami. the son of the
city’s founder, after some dates, constructed in the 15th century.

Cascades d’Akchour is located near Chefchaouen, almost 25 km. The route from Chefchaouen to Akchour is fantastic, you can see some beautiful landscapes of the Rif Mountains.
A big one with a very beautiful lake, where you can relax and drink a coffee, while you see th
most beautiful views of the place. The water is incredibly refreshing and crystal clear.
