Also, known as Chaouen, was founded in 1471, by Moulay Ali ibn Rashid al- Alami is known for the streets and building painted in all nuances of blue, to the joy of the photographers. The enchanting city is at the foot of the Riff mountains, and the fresh mountain air is felt throughout the medina. Or maybe is the color of water, or this color brings calm or really is cool and
attractive! With a history of Spanish occupation, the city retains the Spanish and Andalusian influence in architecture. You will be delighted by this picturesque and photogenic city.

Panoramic view of Chefchaoune
Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 in the Rif mountains by Jews and Moors fleeing Spain. I heard a lot of different (some quite unbelievable) theories about why Chefchaouen is blue. Some say it was painted blue by the Jews who settled there after fleeing Hitler, others say it’s to keep the mosquitos away, while some just said it represents the color of the sea.
The Spanish Mosque was built in the 1920s and sits on a hill that perfectly overlooks Chfchaouen’s medina, Was built during the Rif War which was fought between the Spanish, who were colonizing the region, and the Berber tribes of the Rif Mountains. Chefchaouen’s Spanish mosque is probably the best place to catch a sunset in Chefchaouen.
Is the museum located in Kasbah (the main fortified building in the town) and is located in Place Outa el Hamam. A heritage museum was built on a hill in 1737-1738. Place Outa el Hammam & Kasbah Place Outa el Hammam & Kasbah stands as the main square of the old city with an impressive museum that has panoramic views from the tower and the town’s mosque.
It is located at the central Place of Outa Hammam, near the city’s historic Kasbah, dating from the earliest period of the city after its foundation by Moulay ‘Ali ibn Rashid al-Alami. the son of the city’s founder, after some dates, constructed in the 15th century.
